The UUCP Charitable Trust is an affiliate charged with receiving and administering financial assets for the support of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Pensacola, Florida (UUCP). It is a separate entity from the Church, maintaining its own accounts and records.

Our goal is to manage these assets so that they grow and produce perpetual income for the benefit of UUCP and ensure the presence of our liberal faith in the Florida and Alabama Panhandle Region.

Church members and friends who wish to nourish and promote the growth of UU Principles should find the mission of the Trust very positive and encouraging.

The Trustees can assist you in deciding which type of gift will suit your situation and are prepared to advise you fully on the Trust’s needs and priorities.

WHO ARE THE TRUSTEES?

The Trustees are active members of UUCP who are appointed by current Trust members and serve staggered six-year terms. The Trust officers for 2022 are:

Chair:  Georgieanna Bryant

Secretary:  Erin Renfroe

Treasurer:  Laurie Winterberg

Trustee:  Patti Underwood

Trustee:  Hugh Ed Turner

TYPES OF GIFTS ACCEPTED

Outright Gifts

Gifts in the form of cash, stocks, bonds, or mutual funds are the most common donations received by the Trust.  Other assets may also be welcome.

A Gift Through Life Insurance

Life insurance is a useful way to donate since a substantial gift for the UUCP Trust can be provided for a very small premium.  Filling out forms is all that is required.

A Gift Through “Bequest”

With this form of gift, no income loss occurs during your lifetime.  You specify in your will or in a codicil added to your will the bequest you are making to the UUCP Charitable Trust.

A Gift in Trust

You may prefer to establish a trust, with a lawyer’s assistance, in which you specify the way in which your gift will be made and utilized.

A Gift Through an Annuity

An annuity is a financial means to make a gift to the Trust and receive a specified lifetime income for yourself or another beneficiary.

HOW WILL MY GIFT BE ACKNOWLEDGED?

The Secretary of the UUCP Charitable Trust acknowledges all gifts.  In the case of memorials, the donor and the family of the deceased are notified.  When a person is honored on a special occasion, letters are sent to the donor and the honoree.

WHAT TYPES OF FUNDS ARE ADMINISTERED BY THE TRUST?

Various Funds available:

  1. Permanent Endowment (these are the funds that generate income and cannot be breached without a 2/3 majority vote of the entire congregation)
  2. Accessible Endowment (this is the income generated by the corpus and is available to the congregation upon written request from the Board)
  3. Building Fund (this is the fund that provides loans to the Church for major maintenance work which is not covered in the annual operating budget)

WHAT ARE THE TAX BENEFITS?

Gift opportunities suggested in this brochure may have valuable tax benefits for the donor.  Consult your tax advisor or attorney.  The tax advantages of bequests/trusts are substantial but can also be complicated.

HOW DO I MAKE A GIFT TO THE UUCP CHARITABLE TRUST?

To donate, contact a member of the Trust or ask a UUCP Board member to have an officer of the Trust contact you.  At the time of your donation, you will provide instructions as to which fund you wish your gift to support and the method by which you want your gift acknowledged.
