August 2025: From the President

At the Cusp of Change…

Dear Beloved UUCP Community,

As we step into August, we find ourselves at the cusp of change once more. The days remain long and sunlit, but there’s a subtle shift in the breeze—a quiet reminder that summer is slowly preparing to hand over the reins to autumn. Children are gearing up for a new school year, vacations begin to wind down, and routines start to reemerge. It’s a time of transition, and with it, a powerful invitation to reflect and refocus.

This month at UUCP, our Sunday services will center around a theme that feels especially vital in this season of both personal and societal reckoning: what it truly means to be a Unitarian Universalist. We will explore the depth of our faith tradition—not just as a belief system, but as a call to live with courage, clarity, and compassion.

We’ll spend time reflecting on social justice and democracy in these complex times. As political tensions rise and injustice continues to surface in our communities and beyond, we are reminded of our responsibility as UUs to remain grounded in our values. Our principles call us to uphold the inherent worth and dignity of every person, to seek justice, equity, and compassion, and to support the democratic process with both heart and action.

In that spirit, we’ll also focus on what it means to do something when you see a wrong being committed. It’s not always easy—often uncomfortable—but this is where our faith becomes more than words. Whether it’s standing up for a neighbor, writing to an elected official, or simply offering a listening ear to someone who needs to be heard, these small acts are powerful expressions of our shared commitment to building a more just and loving world.

As the seasons shift, may we all find renewed purpose in our spiritual practice, in our community connections, and in our commitment to making a difference. I encourage you to join us for services, bring your questions, your passion, and your presence. Together, we can continue to be a beacon of hope, justice, and love in our city and beyond.

In faith and service,

Crys Brockway (They/Them)
