UUCP suspends food & drink and LUUnch BUUnch until further notice
(August 11, 2021)

In light of recent COVID-19 developments in our broader Escambia community, UUCP leadership has identified risks associated with unmasking and socializing while indoors or in close proximity with others. As such, the UUCP Board has voted to suspend food and beverage service following Sunday Service until further notice and to suspend LUUnch BUUnch gatherings until further notice.

The Delta variant is extremely transmissible, and the Escambia infection rate has climbed to 20-30%. There have been  breakthrough infections in vaccinated people who, in turn, can spread the variant to both vaccinated and unvaccinated persons. The issue on Sundays is unmasking while socializing during refreshments and, for the LUUnch BUUnch, that risk is compounded by being unmasked while exposed to high community rates of infection and a significant unvaccinated population in the broader community.

The health and safety of our congregants remains our top priority. This board decision was made based on the recommendation of the Safer Congregation Ministry Team with careful consideration of the data and risks. Be safe.

We’re Masking Up at UUCP (July 28, 2021)

Effective immediately, ALL UUCP congregants age 2 and older are strongly encouraged to wear a mask while indoors at UUCP, regardless of vaccination status.

UUCP leadership has given careful consideration to rising infection rates and breakthrough infections in light of the spread of the Delta variant and believes that the practice of masking indoors is best for our congregation members, friends, guests, and staff. This practice is also in line with CDC recommendations (see link below). This recommendation will be reviewed in the context of evolving circumstances, including  community positivity rates.
