Cluster Groups – What are They?
Following Hurricane Ivan, the church, under the leadership of then-President Jack Wolverton, crafted a system where every member and friend would be assigned to a “Cluster Group.” These groups ‘cluster’ folks who live close to one another. And each Cluster Group has a designated leader.
In the event of potential dangerous weather events, a phone tree will be activated by the President or their designee, for the group leaders to contact individuals to determine who plans to stay and who plans to leave. The Cluster Group Leader will then coordinate assistance for people who need it, as best they can.
ALSO – Group Leaders are encouraged to make connections with those in their neighborhood cluster group; this is an especially helpful endeavor to help our newer members form UUCP connections.
And members may consider offering mutual support such as sharing rides or enjoying a neighborhood potluck dinner, or any number of other kinds of activities.
Each year, a member of the Board or the President of the congregation, or their designee, re-affirms the group leaders’ willingness to continue serving in their role as leader.
