In the first half of the Nineteenth Century the new United States had to define itself and find an identity to present to the World.
The various regions had different societies and various goals.
In New England two influences presided: The “Age of Enlightenment” required a respected academic status, particularly in the fields and methods of science. The Industrial Revolution was creating social problems, caused by the exploitation of people by ambitious, impersonal owners and corporations.
In this talk we explore how these factors influenced the development of the Unitarian and Universalist faiths.
