Dr. Ryals, professor of English at Pensacola State College, will present a program on “Hawthorne’s ‘Scribbling Women,” focusing on four long-forgotten women who actually broke some barriers as writers in the early 19th century. Nathaniel Hawthorne and other literary figures (mostly male) regarded them as “scribblers.”
