A special music service with singer Rosie Butler, guitarist Walt Kattner, saxophonist and UUCP Member Thom Botsford and friends.
In 1962 saxophonist Stan Getz and guitarist Charlie Byrd recorded Jazz Samba in Pierce Hall, an acoustically superior space in the All Souls Unitarian Church of Washington D.C. To everyone’s surprise, the record was a big hit, spending 70 weeks on the Billboard Top LP chart and marking the beginning of a trend and dance craze. Nearly sixty years later, our music program will try to re-create the delicate instrumentation and lightly swinging sound of Getz, Byrd, and singer Astrud Gilberto, the voice of “The Girl from Ipanema.”
