Visiting Us
What goes on during the Sunday worship services?
Our worship service starts at 10:00 a.m. promptly and lasts approximately one hour. We are a lay-led congregation. Generally, our Sunday Service includes songs, readings and a sermon as well as a time where attendees can share their joys, sorrows and concerns with others in the congregation. There is often A Time for All Ages, which is a time for special words or a story geared toward school-age children and youth. Typically, the children then leave for age-appropriate activities in our classrooms. After the service, there is a coffee hour‚ where coffee and small snacks are served. This is a great time to get to meet people.
Is the church building handicapped accessible.
YES.
What should my children and I wear to this church?
Dress is casual.
Is there childcare and Sunday School during church?
YES. Before the service begins, greeters in our entryway can direct you to our Children’s Religious Education (CRE) team members, classrooms, and nursery. School-age children usually stay with their family during the first part of the service and then are “sung out” to their classes, meaning the congregants sing a short song together while the children depart the sanctuary with the CRE teachers. You might want to arrive a few minutes early to help your children get settled in.
If my child doesn’t separate well, can they stay with me in the service?
Absolutely.
Are there any people of color in this congregation?
Our congregants are predominantly of European-American ancestry. We do have members who are Latinx, Asian, African American and/or Native American. ALL ARE WELCOME.
Are people of any ethnic background welcome in this congregation?
YES! Our church welcomes and appreciates people of all ages, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
Are there people in the congregation who have beliefs similar to the major world religions?
We are a liberal non-creedal faith, with our members believing in a diverse array of spiritual tenets, including, but not limited to, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Humanism, and Paganism.
What is a “lay-led” service?
Our Sunday Services are jointly planned and carried out by our Sunday Services Ministry Team and include speakers from the congregation and community, as well as musicians and other guests. The team chooses the topics, presenters, music and other elements. The usual format (readings, hymns, sermon, covenant, etc.) is followed about three quarters of the time, but you might visit on a Sunday when the full 10:00-11:00 a.m. time slot is filled with a lively debate or a theater piece, a musical presentation or a participatory event. We do delight in diversity!
