UWF Production Spotlights

Female Astronomer

Unitarian Universalists claim three pioneering female astronomers in our history. The University of West Florida Department of Theatre this month presents a play about another important female scientist, Henrietta Leavitt, who worked as a human computer at Harvard University mapping the stars without receiving any scientific credit. Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson opens Feb. 14 and runs two weekends at the UWF Center for Fine and Performing Arts. According to UWF’s description, “Silent Sky is the poignant tale of a woman’s dedication to the stars and the human touch that makes life under the vast sky beautiful and timeless.”

Lauren Anzaldo and Scott Satterwhite have arranged for an ad to appear in the program for Silent Sky. The ad, shown here, highlights the scientific contributions of female UUs.
