Words from Our Minister

My Dear Congregation,

Each day, actually each hour, brings news and change. By the time I write this letter to you something in our close-knit community, or in our world may change. Know that your minister and church leadership are doing our best to stay on top of what is happening around us, as we make decisions about how best to navigate this evolving situation.

Our goal is to have a Sunday Service video to post each week. I have entered a whole new world of learning about doing church online. Our UUA and other organizations are providing webinars and tutorials. It’s a steep learning curve for one who is not a digital native. At the moment, my eleven year old grandson is helping me edit and produce these videos. I plan to be present in the video every Sunday, whether I am delivering the message, or hosting one of our lay members that I know you enjoy hearing. It’s the best way I can think of to make sure you know I am thinking of you, even if I can not be physically present with you.

I also want to develop more ways for us to be together online. Zoom is a great way to chat with each other and see each other’s faces. While some congregations are doing Church by Zoom, I have heard that often there are glitches during the service and many congregants have trouble with the internet signal. I have also heard of doing Coffee Hour by Zoom, and hope to offer that this Sunday. Watch your Email for details and an invitation.

Many emotions and fears may be triggered by what we are learning on the news, or hearing from our friends and family. This is a time to be gentle with yourselves and with one another. Don’t forget to breathe. When you feel the anxiety rising, take three deep breaths and remember, we are all in this together. The world is united in facing the challenges of this pandemic.

Watch for Emails with updates from me.

There are many things to take into account as we take care of ourselves, our loved ones, and our church community. All of us have a role in sustaining the Beloved Community.

May peace and love surround you.
In Love and Hope,
Rev. Alice
